We want people to play instruments.... But, if that instrument is no longer playable, we want to repurpose it, and keep it from going into a landfill.
First started turning broken instruments into Bluetooth speakers, because I thought it would be funny. After starting the project, it occurred to me that the foster kids I work with could also benefit from it.
The foster system is imperfect. And, the perceived stigma that many of the kids carry with them, would break your heart. I bought some supplies and broken instruments for the kids, to help them build their own Bluetooth speakers. My hope is that they see the transformation of something society didn't value, into something that is, not only functional... But, it's just plain AWESOME!
Plus, selling these helps to pay for our field trips, and food... So much great food! Hahaha.
These speakers are imperfect. They each have their own character. No two will sound the same. And, they're built into instruments with a whole life story of their own. There's going to be noise, chips, scratches and dents. In that way, they are no different than us.
Are there better Bluetooth speakers out there?... Absolutely!
Are they as cool as this?... Nope!
And, do they have a better origin story?... Nah, SON!
